Remembering Apache

The Gordin family contacted us to share their memories of Apache, a Heigl Hound that had a huge impact on their lives. Apache was adopted from the Foundation in 2011 and although he was an older dog with some health issues, the family shared a number of wonderful years with him.

Saving Chelsea

Saving Chelsea

Many of you will remember the photo of Chelsea, a downhearted and emotionally dejected pit bull who hid in the corner of her kennel at the San Bernardino Shelter, as visitors passed her by. That image garnered a lot of online attention and tugged at our heartstrings. Fortunately, we were able to rescue Chelsea back in February and find her a loving home.

Road Trip For Rascals

On August 5th, 46 kittens and a Chihuahua were part of a transport funded by the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation from Long Beach Animal Care Services (ACS) to the Foothills Animal Shelter in Golden, Colorado. ACS staff and volunteers from a number of rescue groups working the transport with our coordinator Diane Holmes, teamed up with photographer Sara Cozolino and journalist Kate Karp to document the journey.

The Horror Of Dogfighting

Dog fighting is an abhorrent and barbaric activity. Sadly, this sickening and illegal practice still occurs in every part of the country and in every type of community. Our attention was drawn yesterday to the horrific case of Sparrow, a 5 month old Shepherd Mix from Greenville, South Carolina brutally attacked in a fight where he had been used as a bait dog.
