Furniture Design To Benefit The Compassion Revolution

In conjunction with Los Angeles based Jean De Merry, a firm which specializes in high-end French deco furniture, Katherine Heigl has designed a limited-edition vanity table to benefit The Compassion Revolution.

The furniture item is part of a guest designer charity event which also includes limited-edition, made-to-order pieces by Victoria’s Secret model Karolina Kurkova, fashion designer Gregory Parkinson and jewelry designer Irene Neuwirth.

100% of the net sale proceeds of each piece will benefit a charity of choice by the guest designer and the benefit, which launches with a private, invitation-only party on Wednesday, June 8, has been put together by Jean de Merry to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Only ten pieces of each item will be produced.

Dumped On The Highway

Animal advocate Kim Sill and the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation are offering a reward totaling $5000 for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the individual responsible for an act of cruelty that resulted in a number of small dogs being dumped on Imperial Highway on April 27.

The incident, which took place last Wednesday evening, saw approximately 15 small white dogs dumped on Imperial Highway (State Route-90), a popular route between eastern Los Angeles and the beach communities next to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Witnesses reported a scene of complete mayhem with the terrified dogs desperately trying to avoid being hit by oncoming traffic and the sound of screeching brakes as drivers attempted to avoid the animals. They described how one of the dogs was hit by a car which did not stop and dragged 20 feet before emerging from underneath the vehicle behind.

Kim Sill, along with Rock and Rescue is overseeing the care of the dog who was hit, temporarily named Carson. Pending a full recovery, he will be re-homed through the Bark n Bitches organization. Sill’s organization D Cups Saving Tea Cups is offering a $3,500 to find the perpetrator. The JDHF has added an additional $1500 to the reward fund.

Pet Adopters Prove ‘Green’ Is The New Color of Love!

Adopters and eco-friendly pet guardians filled all six Los Angeles Animal Care Shelters last Saturday, March 19th, for "St. Pawtrick’s Day – A ‘Green’ Adoption Event" presented in association with Ruff Patches. At the end of the day, 47 cats, 109 dogs, and 3 rabbits and pocket pets found new homes with adoptive families – a 100% increase in the adoption numbers from the year before!

Interested adopters were also able to fill out "Come Back for Me" cards for dogs and cats that were not available during the weekend. As a result, LA Animal Services expects many more lucky four-legged pals to be adopted throughout the week.
