In the few weeks that have passed since we rescued Grace, the five year old Pit Bull clinging desperately to life after years of neglect and abuse, there have been many moments when we feared she might not pull through. In hindsight, we should never have doubted her tenacity, spirit and strength of character.
The Jason Debus Heigl Foundation is pleased to announce a new partnership with North Shore Animal League America to undertake joint mobile pet adoption events and implement a transport initiative to support the relocation of animals at risk of euthanasia. The partnership will begin with a special adoption tomorrow, where the two organizations have joined forces with Baldwin Park Animal Care Center to help some amazing animals find loving homes.
Thankfully despite being more than 20lbs underweight, suffering from diabetes and in a very poor state of health following years of neglect and abuse, Grace, who had been clinging on to life at the Baldwin Park Shelter before desperate staff alerted us to her plight, survived the legal holding period for stray animals and was released into our care. Showing great tenacity, bravery and fighting spirit she continues to battle for survival.
Shelter Me, a film documentary hosted by Katherine Heigl that illustrates how people’s lives are positively impacted by shelter dogs, is now available to purchase on DVD. The one-hour, emotionally-charged television special (originally broadcast on PBS) celebrates the human-animal bond by showcasing three inspirational stories about shelter dogs and the lives they change.
