The City of Irvine's 6th Annual Super Pet Adoption event took place last Sunday and we were in attendance with the Heigl Hounds for a record breaking day which saw 353 dogs, cat and rabbits find their forever homes. Over 4000 people attended Orange County's biggest animal adoption extravaganza hosted at the Irvine Shelter's park-like campus, a wonderfully receptive venue for such a large event.
Rescue groups from all over the Greater Southern California region brought animals along for adoption. Each was given a large, grassy area to set up their cages and pens to display some great pets. The tree-shaded campus was flooded with lots of prospective adopters, old and young, all looking for that new and special family member. Hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers were on-hand to help ease the large task of setting up the booths for each of the attending organizations and parking was guided by uniformed Explorer Scouts.
Every breed of dog was there - from St.Bernard's to Chihuahua's, from Beagles to Bichons. Cats were also well represented with long haired and short, yellows, tabbies and beautiful persians. There was something for everyone. Looking for a bunny? They had plenty!
The Heigl Foundation and animal rights supporter, daytime TV host and bestselling author Rachael Ray have recently joined forces to help four legged friends in need, and we arrived with tons of Rachael Ray Nutrish® pet food packs to pass out to the hundreds of prospective adopters. Everyone was happy to take a sample home. One person even commented that the package was just the right size to use for their emergency/disaster pack!
We were also delighted to receive an application for Bud, our tan Pit Bull (who is so gorgeous we nicknamed him Brad Pitt) and are now pursuing a home check. We look forward to completing the adoption shortly and sending our Heigl Hound Bud to his forever home!
Last, but definitely not least, a big thank you to our volunteers for their help, assistance and support at the event. We couldn't do it without you guys!
