Meet Nash! Nash is a 9 year-old Labrador Retriever and a recent addition to our internal rescue group the Heigl Hounds Of Hope, which is focused on finding homes for medium to large dogs from high kill shelters, many of whom have suffered neglect, abandonment and abuse. This is the first part of his brave story, a journey which we hope will end in a forever home.

The Petfinder.com Foundation and the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation have teamed up to fight kennel cough! The City of San Bernandino Animal Control will receive a $7000 Bordetella grant to fight the disease, which will provide vaccinations to immunize approximately 2,800 dogs. The contagious nature of the Bordetella means that shelter pets, particularly older animals and puppies with weaker immune systems are at greatest risk. PetFinder’s generous donation will be a life saver.

The first mobile spay/neuter day funded by the Heigl Ray Of Hope program took place on April 28 at Baldwin Park, CA. The event was a great success, with a large turn out for the initiative which offers free spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats in cities serviced by the Baldwin Park Shelter. In total, 38 animals were spayed or neutered in just a few hours, kicking off a number of mobile surgery days planned during the coming year.
