Congrats!! What a beautiful statue! This foundation really excels in implementing out of the box spay and neuter ideas. There are websites and people who think the shelters etc are so bad but it’s the sheer volume of animals that come through their respective doors daily. My rescue has bailed and placed over 500 border collies (and other herding dog breeds) in the past four years. If we were all breed it would be excruciating to go to shelters and decide who to save (although I’ve been known to save a few ankle biters now and again). My point is we are able to save the bulk of the bcs that we find in shelters in so cal but the supply never ends. The best solutions are volunteering, fostering (this is the biggest need and so few people actually do it) and of course spay and neuter. The Heigel Foundation continues to come up with excellent, effective and visible spay and neuter campaigns. We have a few dogs who have “lost their balls” courtesy of the foundation. The only other thing I would like to say on behalf of the dogs and cats “if you are fortunate to own your own home as I am, please give back by sharing your home with a foster pet. It’s such a selfless act and it’s really not so awful to let the pets go. The new adopters so often have just lost a beloved pet and bringing the grieving family and the dog together is so heartwarming. Then you make a spot for another shelter animal!
