Last week staff from the Heigl Foundation joined other animal advocates for a seminar with animal behaviorist and dog trainer extraordinaire Robert Cabral.
Robert is very active in rescue and donates much of his time and resources to building a better world for animals. His charity Bound Angeles educates, rescues and builds media campaigns to heighten awareness of the forgotten and the abandoned. Robert also works with various rescues evaluating, training and consulting.
Robert Cabral Addressing Attendees
His methods of dog training are very unique, as they focus less on discipline and are more about understanding. It was this philosophy and approach that Robert came to share and discuss with us at one of our boarding facilities on September 19th.
Robert Cabral Sharing Practical Advice
The goal of the 5 hour question and answer session was to improve our training abilities, increase our understanding of the mindset of the animals in our care and to explain how we can be of most help to the animals that we want to rescue.
Many of the dogs that we encounter in shelters have been neglected and abused. This can often make them fearful and aggressive. One of the topics Robert was able to discuss during our group session was fear aggression and he explained how best to handle a dog with this behavioral issue.
