Saturday, September 17 is national Puppy Mill Awareness Day 2011 and the JDHF will be supporting Bark Avenue Foundation and the North Shore Animal League at the 3rd Annual "Get Your Licks On Route 66" Adoption and Puppy Mill Awareness event in downtown Los Angeles.

Join celebrity animal lovers such as Elaine Hendrix (Joan of Arcadia, Friends, Charmed, Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2) and Orlando Brown (The Jamie Foxx Show, That's So Raven, Phil of The Future, WordGirl) at the event and adopt a rescued cat, dog or bunny to support Puppy Mill Awareness.

Get Your Licks On Route 66

In addition to lots of pets for you to meet, there will be demonstrations and information, raffles, prizes, free vaccinations and microchipping and some great food trucks! Our new executive director Kathy Davis will also be in attendance.

The event will take place between 10am and 3pm at 545 S. Main St., Los Angeles 90013. Please come along, show your support and help give a loving animal a forever home.

Puppy mills are substandard commercial breeding programs that operate with an emphasis on profit above animal welfare. Poor living conditions result in the development of chronic health problems, temperament issues and hereditary defects in animals that are bred in these environments.

The JDHF is committed to educating the public about the horrors of puppy mills and actively discourages the purchase of companion pets from stores that obtain their animals from commercial breeding factories.
