As part of The Compassion Revolution program, the JDHF provides funding to assist a number of organizations in providing low-income residents of South Los Angeles with access to free spay / neuter for their pets. Downtown Dog Rescue works in the Compton area of the city and with the support of the Heigl Foundation runs a monthly program to sterilize a number of dogs.

Lori Weise of Downtown Dog Rescue manages the free spay / neuter dog clinics in Compton's East Rancho Dominguez Park on the second Saturday of each month, where about 35 dogs who have appointments are fixed, vaccinated and microchipped. Television station KCET spoke with her about the importance of the program, in an area where many locals want to have their dogs fixed but simply cannot afford to do so.
